Every farm answers the same questions and signs them. Until a verifier visits, those answers are the farm's own word, and we label them that way.
- Out of sight
- No animal sees another being slaughtered, or the blade being sharpened. The farm uses a separate room, a solid wall or a curtain.
- Grazes outdoors
- The animals spend part of every day outside on pasture or open ground, not only in a pen.
- Plant-only feed
- Grass, hay, grain and other plants only, with no animal by-products in the feed.
- Farm pickup
- You collect your meat at the farm.
- Market pickup
- The farm drops your meat at a halal market or shop near you to collect.
- Delivery
- The farm brings your meat to your home, usually for a fee.
- Small farms only
- Family farms with 10 animals or fewer. They're listed first anyway; this hides everyone else.
- Vetted
- A local partner has visited the farm, met the people who run it and checked that it's real.
Family farm: 10 animals or fewer. Farm: up to 50. Large farm: more than 50. “Self-reported” means the farm's own answer. “Audited” means someone checked it in person, and the date is shown.
