What the filters mean Every farm answers the same questions and signs them. Until a verifier visits, those answers are the farm's own word, and we label them that way.
Out of sightNo animal sees another being slaughtered, or the blade being sharpened. The farm uses a separate room, a solid wall or a curtain.
Grazes outdoorsThe animals spend part of every day outside on pasture or open ground, not only in a pen.
Plant-only feedGrass, hay, grain and other plants only, with no animal by-products in the feed.
Small farms only Family farms with 10 animals or fewer. They're listed first anyway; this hides everyone else.
Vetted A local partner has visited the farm, met the people who run it and checked that it's real. Family farm: 10 animals or fewer. Farm: up to 50. Large farm: more than 50. “Self-reported” means the farm's own answer. “Audited” means someone checked it in person, and the date is shown.
